About this Project
The development of street improvement plans for downtown districts can present a number of special challenges to the design team. YOUNG & ASSOCIATES, PA engineers worked closely with property and business owners, design review committees, architects and City Staff to successfully design and integrate Mead Street improvements into Wichita’s historic “Old Towne” District. A balance of streetscape, parking space, pedestrian accessibility, and traffic circulation was created to meet the challenges of the Old Towne District. Some of the critical design items for the project included:
- Maximize the number of parking stalls
- Improve storm sewer drainage systems
- Provide for safe and efficient vehicle and pedestrian circulation, including addressing the latest ADA regulations
- Showcase the “Yard’s” aircraft display
